About this job

The Maintenance Assistant plays a key part in ensuring the smooth running of our operations by supporting the operations and technical teams. This hands-on role requires a practical, proactive individual with an eye for detail, strong organisational skills, and a respectful approach to working in a historic environment.

You will assist in maintaining venue infrastructure, supporting daily operations, setting up for events, and ensuring all spaces are safe, clean, and presentable for our staff, audiences, and performers.

Is this job for you?

We’re looking for someone hands-on, practical, and proactive — someone who takes pride in fixing what’s broken, keeping things running smoothly, and making sure every space is safe, welcoming, and looking its best. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment where no two days are the same, and you’ll bring a strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.

Whether working independently or as part of a team, you’ll be dependable, resourceful, and motivated by a job well done. Flexibility is key — we need someone who’s happy to work early mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends as required.

And if you care about your local area and community, especially here in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, you’ll fit right in.

As a Facilities Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and upkeep of a busy live events venue located within a listed building. You will support both day-to-day operations and long-term maintenance goals, with a strong focus on service quality and event readiness.

  4. Carry out physical duties such as moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries across the site. Ensure rooms and spaces are correctly set up and cleared as per operational needs.
  5. Accompany and assist contractors on site, ensuring they follow the venue’s procedures relating to health and safety, access, and conservation. Report any concerns to the Technical Manager.
  6. Adhere to all health and safety protocols and assist in maintaining a safe working environment. Report hazards or incidents promptly and support safe working practices across the venue.
  7. Support the venue’s fire safety protocols by assisting with emergency lighting checks, alarm testing, and evacuation drills or incidents.
  8. Contribute to the smooth running of day-to-day venue operations by assisting with room setups, signage changes, general upkeep, and other ad hoc duties.
  9. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation in all work areas, both front-of-house and back-of-house. Ensure tasks are completed with care and attention to detail.
  10. Assist in monitoring stock levels of tools and consumables, tracking equipment, and ensuring items are properly stored and maintained.
  11. Work with care and consideration of the venue’s listed building status. Ensure all actions respect the historical fabric of the site and report any accidental damage or structural concerns immediately.

General Responsibilities

  1. Undertake designated responsibilities, such as a First Aider, Fire Marshal or Duty Manager if required and appropriately trained.
  2. Support the development of future talent by welcoming and mentoring work experience placements, interns and apprentices, creating an inclusive and supportive environment.
  3. Promote and maintain a safe working environment, following the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy and all other relevant policies, procedures and encouraging others to do the same.
  4. Protect the organisation’s data and information assets, ensuring all work complies with the Trust’s data protection policies and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  5. Take personal responsibility for ongoing learning, undertaking training and professional development as required to meet the evolving needs of the organisation.
  6. Always act in the best interests of the Trust, complying fully with all relevant organisational policies and procedures.
